PREVIEW: Pearland ISD to review financial accountability rating

Pearland ISD’s board of trustees is scheduled to review the district’s financial accountability rating at its Oct. 13 meeting after receiving an “A” for the 2025-26 rating year, based on data from the 2024-25 school year.

The board will also hold a public hearing on the rating, district documents show. 

What you need to know

The Texas Education Agency’s Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas, or FIRST, evaluates school districts’ financial management practices and aims to ensure they maximize the amount of funding available for instructional purposes, according to the agency’s website.

PISD received a score of 98 out of 100 for the 2024-25 school year, earning an “A” rating. The district’s score has improved since the 2022-23 school year, when it received a 94, district documents show. 

One of the system’s indicators showed the district proactively planned its finances and responded to funding changes to make informed budget decisions, documents show.

The board of trustees will meet at 5 p.m. Oct. 13 at the Virgil Gant Education Support Center, located at 1928 N. Main St., Pearland.​
